Tarps not allowed on riverbank until Saturday, Dec. 1

NATCHITOCHES – Christmas Festival attendees who hope to reserve a space on
the downtown riverbank to view the fireworks will have to wait until 6 a.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 1 to place tarps on the riverbank.

All tarps placed on the riverbank before 6 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 will be
removed. Stakes of any kind will not be allowed to secure tarps on the
riverbank.  

The fireworks are scheduled to take place over Cane River Lake in downtown
Natchitoches at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Admission will be charged to this year’s festival. Admission will be charged on
Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. On Festival Day, admission will be $7
for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12 years old.
Santa House announces hours of operation during holiday
season

The Santa Claus House, located on the southern end of the downtown
riverbank in the Natchitoches Historic District, has announced its hours of
operation for the 2007 holiday season, beginning on Sunday, Dec. 2.

The house will be manned every night, beginning on Dec. 2, by Miss Merry
Christmas and the Christmas Belles and Santa Claus himself. The Santa House
will be open every night from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The house will remain open
every night through Sunday, Dec. 23.

Children are invited to visit the house, where they will have an opportunity to
share their Christmas wish list and have a picture made with Jolly Old St. Nick.
Pictures are $3 per group.
81st Annual Christmas Festival

Daylong celebration with arts and crafts, food, parade, live entertainment,
fireworks, light show and the lighting of 300,000+ Christmas bulbs and 70+
riverbank set pieces. Admission to the Festival Area is $7 adults 12 and older,

Beyond Blue Dog Exhibition
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
The Old Courthouse Museum introduces Cajun Artist George Rodrigue and his
renown works to the North Louisiana public. The exhibit is a trio-themed show
with a few early paintings of the famed Blue Dog and some of his newest Blue
Dog paintings. Also exhibited will be the series of paintings of Louisiana Pulitzer
Prize winners, which were introduced at the Flora Levy lecture series. The
largest portion of the show will feature The Saga of the Acadians collection.

Native American Basket Day
9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The 36th Annual Basket Day event will be held at Northwestern State University
in the Williamson Museum on the second floor of Kyser Hall. Admission is free
and open to the public. Basket Day is sponsored by the NSU Anthropology
Society and the School of Social Sciences.



Crafts will include pine straw, river cane, and wood splint basketry, beadwork,
silverwork, ribbon shirts, chinaberry necklaces, palmetto weavings, and many

French Faience Exhibit
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The French Faience Exhibit opens at Northwestern State University in the
Williamson Museum on the second floor of Kyser Hall. Admission is free and
open to the public. French pottery sherds from 17th and 18th century
northwest Louisiana will be displayed and interpreted. Students from the
Anthropology and Heritage Resources programs will be on hand to answer
questions. The project is funded through a grant from the Cane River National

St. Augustine Historical Society Christmas Lights Display
6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Each night in December, travel down the Cane River National Heritage Area Trail
Scenic Byway through Natchez, Bermuda, Melrose, Cypress, Derry, Cloutierville,
and other surrounding areas of Souther Cane River Lake to see a beautiful
nighttime array of Christmas lights and decorations throughout the holiday
season. Historic Creole homes display traditional Christmas lighting and
